IONIQ 5 vs Kia Niro EV
The first challenger for the IONIQ 5 to face down is the 2022 Kia Niro EV. To begin, the Hyundai SUV sets the bar high by flexing its strength. The base SE trim’s electric motor can crank out up to 225 horsepower when equipped with standard RWD. Meanwhile, the Kia option falls short, only able to achieve 201 horsepower with its base configuration. Furthermore, while the IONIQ 5 sits at an estimated 303-mile RWD electric driving range1 the Niro EV will need to pull over and recharge sooner due to its 239-mile range2. To make the former even more appealing, consider that the former sits atop standard 19-inch wheels, while the competition only has meager 17-inch components to work with, which won’t turn as many heads when cruising down the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.
IONIQ 5 vs Ford Mustang Mach-E
Now that it’s left the Niro EV in the dust, let’s see how the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 fares against a sporty opponent. While the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is certainly fast, the Hyundai takes the cake in a key aspect of EV operation: charging time. It’s estimated to go from 10% to 100% in six hours and 43 minutes3 when connected to a Level II charger. Meanwhile, the Ford will require approximately 10 hours4 before reaching a full charge. Taking the win in the safety department is also the 2022 IONIQ 5, which provides standard features like Driver Attention Warning5 to help you stay focused on the road. This won’t be available in the 2022 Mustang Mach-E. The same can be said for the Safe Exit Assist6 feature, making the Hyundai a more ideal pick.
IONIQ 5 vs Tesla Model Y
As you can see, the IONIQ 5 is nothing short of impressive. And while luxury models like the 2022 Tesla Model Y may seem like the cream of the crop, customers will be happy to know that the Hyundai can still hold its own. By equipping the IONIQ 5 with available AWD, it can generate up to 446 lb.-ft. of instant torque. That’s more than the Model Y Long Range’s 376 lb.-ft. of torque, making the former the way to go for a more lively boost off the starting line. Furthermore, the Hyundai option can plug into an 800V DC fast charger and recoup about 68 miles of range in approximately five minutes3. The Tesla isn’t compatible with such a power source. To top things off, consider that the IONIQ 5 offers unique drive modes like Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Snow to switch up your dynamics on a dime. You won’t find these options in the Tesla.
